The Mount kilimanjaro is the highest peak in Africa. It is located very close to the equator. Yet ice and snow blanket the peak of Kilimanjaro year round. It might don't make sense but the countries Ethiopia and Somalia are an example. They are about the same distance from the equator, yet they have different climates. Ethiopia is located ina very high plateau. Much of Ethiopia has mild temperatures and much rain. Somalia is at much lower elevation than Ethiopia. It's climate is hot and dry. Farming is impossible there... That helps you understand that elevation or heigh above sea level, also affects climate.
